The problem is not the chef. The problem is the place where the class was. It is already cold, it is outdoors, we could barely hear, it took forever to eat a bite.

Chef Mai was amazing and did a great job adjusting her class to accommodate the mix of people who were there for business and others who were having a fun date night. The venue was outside at a brewery, I knew this beforehand and it was perfect! Being able to have a beer or two during an outdoor casual class was exactly what I was looking for for my date night.

Chef Mai was an engaging and fun teacher. We learned a lot and would certainly do another class. We were not expecting the class to be outside and though the weather was beautiful, being outside was not an ideal venue for food prep.

Chef Mai was very sweet and her instruction of making sushi rolls was easy to follow. We had a good time with her. On the other hand, the venue - beer co. - although nice and airy in late afternoon with music in the background, was likely inappropriate for a sushi making class. It made it hard to hear, and handling food and plasticware outside on a patio table with the wind blowing made it a bit difficult. I would definitely take any of her classes again but will look at the venue a bit more.

Chef Mei was amazing, we could not ask for a better experience. We would follow her around the city for more classes if we could. Not just 5 stars, but 100. We loved all of it!

The venue was the downfall of this experience. The brewery was equipped with everything except the first 3 drinks I requested from their menu, comfortable seating and actual walls. We were seated in a thinly veiled outdoor patio on a chilly and rainy evening. It was uncomfortable chopping food while wearing a coat and being seated on an uncomfortably unstable wooden bench with my back touching those of the people seated behind us. The venue took away from the experience. Chef Mai was okay I suppose. I left early to get food indoors.

Pros: Chef Mai seemed really knowledgable. The ingredients were quality, so we ended up with a few decent sushi rolls. Cons: I wish I had known it would be outdoors. It was rather cold to be out in March. The whole experience was disorganized. Ingredients were unequally distributed between tables. Chef Mai was soft-spoken, so she decided to demonstrate each roll 3 times: once at each table. This left 2/3 tables doing a lot of waiting in the cold. We used up too much rice for the first roll and didn't have enough to make all the advertised rolls. More careful foresight could have prevented this The knives were dull. I can't make pretty, clean-cut sushi with dull knives that mash the roll down.

We had so much fun with Chef Mai! We enjoyed meeting the others at our table and we definitely learned enough to try it at home. Chef Mai has a winning way about her and is a good teacher!

Chef Mai was definitely trying hard, but the venue is not ideal for this class because it’s outside, right by the street, and many other patrons of the bar are talking as well around you, so it’s super difficult to hear. It seems like the class size was just too big; we couldn’t hear her instructions as a group so she went table by table, which took a long time. We also ran out of rice so only made two of the three advertised rolls.

The venue which was a tent, was cold had to leave my coat on during the whole class, even though they had heaters. Chef Mai was good, could have done a better job monitoring how much rice each participant used because we didn't get a chance to do three sushi rolls as indicated in the advertisement. There was three tables ( the set-up of the tables could have been a little more efficient place) it took Chef Mai quite a bit time to do her demonstration of the sushi rolls.
