In this hands-on cooking class, you'll experience the incredible fusion of African and Asian flavors as you prepare dishes from Suriname. This tiny South American country is home to people of Dutch, African, Indian, Indonesian and Indigenous descent, and their cuisine wonderfully reflects these different cultures. Your meal will begin with a traditional West African peanut soup. Then, you'll explore the Indonesian influences by making a soy and ginger-basted baked chicken served alongside bamie, Indonesian-style egg noodles from the island of Java. Lastly, you'll end your culinary evening by whipping up bojo, a rich cake made with coconut, cassava, sugar and coconut milk.

Chef Peggy was very good. Really enjoyed her teaching the class and the winery menu. My only concern is as we were expecting flank steak tacos not ground beef as cooking techniques are very different. All in all a fun experience.

Chef Peggy is an absolute joy. Good was delicious and we hope we can replicate it all back home. Our only constructive criticism would be to make it more hands-on and have the guests do all the preparing and cooking with Peggy’s oversight as it is a cooking class after all. That said, I would not hesitate at hiring chef Peggy for a future event.

Chef Peggy brings a refreshing approach on cooking. I loved how simple and fresh her ingredients were. It reminded me that food doesn't have to be complicated to be healthy. The peanut sauce was truly amazing with the right amount of spice. Her space was very inviting and brought a sense of peace of mind along with great aromatics floating through the air.
With a strong focus on the healing qualities of food, Chef Peggy emphasizes mindful eating and teaches how to choose the healthiest ingredients in her interactive cooking classes. Armed with 10 years of experience teaching cooking classes and seven years as a caterer and personal chef, Chef Peggy enjoys crafting menus built around seasonal fare. Another accomplishment to add to the list: she won the bronze medal in the seafood category in the 2018 Caribbean chef competition.
