Cooking Class: Italian With a Contemporary Flare

Join Chef John in this hands-on cooking class for home-style Italian favorites with a contemporary flare. Start with a twist on a traditional bruschetta with smoked tomatoes and sweet balsamic drizzle. Then learn to make flat bread for Margherita pizza with garlic cream cheese sauce. For the main course, cook a traditional chicken Parmigiana topped with fresh cheeses and a hearty tomato sauce. Finish up with the iconic Italian deep-fried dough known as zeppole.

Smoked Tomato Bruschetta 

Served with butter crusted bread and balsamic reduction


Margherita Flatbread Pizza 

With garlic cream cheese, tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, basil and olive oil


Chicken Parmigiana 

With Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese, mozzarella, tomato sauce and linguini


Zeppole 

With deep-fried dough, cinnamon sugar, marinated fruit and mint leaf

Chef John showed how to properly cut a red onion and talked about the versatility of onions. He used it to make a homemade onion vinaigrette dressing that could be used in a number of different ways from a dressing to a marinade for chicken. He is a very knowledgeable chef where you will definitely walk away with more knowledge than you came in with.
