Cooking Class: Make Modern Sushi With Traditional Techniques

In this hands-on class with Chef Harold, you will learn how to prepare an impressive seven-course Japanese menu featuring both modern sushi creations as well as traditional rolled sushi. Some of the different types of sushi you can look forward to creating in this class include a salmon tartare cupcake and a tuna tartare taco as well as a classic cucumber roll, California roll, and a shrimp tempura hand roll. You can also look forward to brewing a traditional miso soup and some mochi donuts for dessert.

Miso Soup

With dried seaweed, soft tofu, scallions and dashi


Salmon Tartare Cupcake

With togarashi, avocado, mayonnaise and scallions


Hosomaki

Cucumber roll with sushi rice and seaweed


California Roll

With seaweed, surimi, cucumber and avocado


Shrimp Tempura Hand Roll

With seaweed, avocado, spicy mayonnaise and teriyaki sauce


Sushi Taco

With seaweed, tempura batter, tuna tartare and salsa


Mochi Donuts

With sweet potato, mochi powder, sugar, chocolate and heavy cream

Chef Harold arrived and begin with a short story of how he became a Sushi Chef!! My son and I loved hearing about his journey and when he started with the lesson it showed his love of he does. We began with a miso soup (best I ever had, honestly) followed with a lesson on a simple shrimp tempura roll - things taste so much better when they are fresh and made to order (get it). Chef Harold followed up with very clear directions and an example to make a California Roll and a Spicy Tuna Roll - oh wait I almost forgot about the Sushi Taco with spicy mango salsa. While it was simple - the flavor bursting through was not. I would HIGHLY recommend you booking Chef Harold if you want to learn to make Sushi and as he said - eat everything you make!! I look forward to expanding my Sushi making skills after this lesson and attempting to make the Sushi Taco. My son and I had a great time and look forward to another opportunity to learn from Chef Harold!!!!
