Cooking Class: Journey Through South American Cuisine
Join Chef Gustavo on a journey through the flavors and aromas of South American cuisine. You'll learn about customs and culture as you prepare dishes from Peru, Bolivia, Argentina and Venezuela. Flavor-filled selections include ceviche with cilantro and spicy peppers and fresh quinoa salad with Manchego cheese. Next, you'll learn how to make a perfectly stuffed beef empanada and an arepa reina pepiada corn cake with avocado and fresh arugula, cilantro, spring onions and chicken.

Peru: Ceviche
Fish of the day, lemon juice, garlic, cilantro and habanero peppers
Bolivia: Quinoa Salad
With fresh vegetables, jalapeño, Manchego cheese, lemon juice and olive oil
Argentina: Beef Empanada
With organic ground beef, onions, garlic, red bell peppers and boiled eggs
Venezuela: Arepa Reina Pepiada
Corn cake filled with arugula, avocado, cilantro, spring onions and chicken

My friend and I went as a date night and we had a blast. Chef Gustavo explains everything so well and made it fun and easy. Everything tasted amazing. Make sure you come hungry because there was so much to eat. Also there is free 4 hr parking across the street by the field, which he recommended!

Meet your chef
As owner and executive chef of the lively and eclectic Rumba Cafe in Washington, D.C.'s Adams Morgan district for 20 years, Chef Gustavo has a deep love and appreciation for Latin American cuisine. He brings international inspiration from his travels through Latin America, France, Spain and the Caribbean. Chef Gustavo studied at the prestigious L'Academie de Cuisine and is available to teach cooking classes in both English and Spanish.
