Cooking Class: The Art of Southern Cooking Techniques

Transport yourself to the South in this immersive cooking class led by Chef Washington.

You'll begin by chopping onions and peppers to combine with kidney beans, pork sausage and rice for a savory appetizer to start the meal. Next, simmer shrimp, crab, chicken and rice flavored with thyme and cayenne pepper to make a seafood gumbo that is bursting with flavor. Whip up a traditional Cajun fry mix to coat catfish and oysters to fry until golden brown and crispy. Caramelize bananas with butter and brown sugar and top with dark rum and banana liqueur to create sweet banana fosters for dessert. The food was delicious! Especially enjoyed the breakfast taco. Chef Washington was very professional and explained all the taco that were being prepared. He made the class so fun. I would definitely attend another class.

It was a lovely gift to purchase for my partner to celebrate valentines. Chef was a nice, likeable person. Only thing that raised an eyebrow - we were expecting super fresh ingredients given the cost of the class but some of the veggies were going bad frozen bagged seafood was used and canned preserved condiments like garlic. Expected something but more elected than what we got. Chef also was a bit out of it that day so we didn’t really get a lot of background context about the food, prep style, culture etc - just an assignment of tasks. Food came out good though; the flan was great!
