The Arepa is a type of flatbread made of ground maize dough stuffed with a filling, eaten in northern parts of South America since pre-Columbian times, and notable primarily in the cuisine of Colombia and Venezuela, but also present in Bolivia, Ecuador, and Central America. Arepas have become more popular in the world in the last 20 years with the Venezuelan migration to most countries of the world. ChefCarlos is a Venezuelan Chef, very passionate about his country's staple dish, and in this class, he will teach how to make Arepas the proper way, and he will teach varieties of fillings for this delicious golden bread, starting with the Reina Pepiada, a contemporary filling of Avocados and Chicken, invented as a result of a tribute to a beauty queen. We will be exploring the history of Latin America's cuisine and cultures, using Arepa making as our main focus.
Cooking classes on Classpop! are designed to be fun, social events. Feel free to purchase wine or beer at the venue to enjoy during the class.

I had the pleasure of planning the Birthday party of my husband Jim, and Chef Carlos gave us his A+ game recently and it was an absolutely delightful experience. The food was expertly crafted, beautifully presented, and bursting with flavor. Chef Carlos’ passion for cooking was evident in every bite, and his attention to detail was truly impressive. Hiring Chef Carlos as our personal chef was the best decision we ever made! From the moment he walked into our home, we knew we were in for a treat. A graduate of top culinary programs in Venezuela and Argentina, he has honed his expertise in haute cuisine, molecular gastronomy and catering. Chef Carlos has held leadership roles at prestigious venues, including 5-star restaurants, where he managed operations and trained teams. Passionate about mentorship, he has also guided aspiring chefs as an instructor, blending creativity and precision in his teaching.
